Of all the things a smile can hide.
Smile into the yellowed mirror,
As you drop your veil of disguise,
And stare at that pallid face,
That looks you in the eyes.
Claw your way into your skin,
Convulse your way in pain,
Fix that bruise over your heart,
And sew those broken veins.
Throw up blood and hatred down, Hammer back those nails, Feel it in and breathe it out,
This morbid body, pale.
Then gently lift the silken robe,
Dress up and hitch a ride,
Although it comes to pieces now,
There’s nothing a smile can’t hide.

It is an outstanding piece of poetry…I have had a brief journey through your pages here and could find the gems so generously strewn all over the path beneath an azure sky so softly comforted by shades of those slender trees….
It is delightful to explore your interest in latin phrases…more precisely, the Spanish ones…and the emotions have slightly had such passionate impressions as might those romantic poets hold in heart and pen while scripting poetry….
I am reminded of Neruda….the laughter….
“Laugh of the night, of the day, of the moon,
Laugh of the twisted streets of the island,
Laugh of this blundering lad that loves you,
But when I open the eyes and close them,
When my steps go, when my steps come back,
Deny me the bread, the air, the light, the spring,
But never your laughter because i would die….”
the context may differ a little, but the magic of pain that his pen delivered has reappeared in my mind through your this touching poem…
Smile is angelic…divine…immortal…..has a perpetuity of first creations….sodden with passions…remembered and forgotten….ancient moments and its lashes and love….mythical with touches of sins and virtues….poetic through longing and belonging….
All those pure and contrasting faculties I see in your poem….it is indeed a morning that commences with a satisfying note for me…
My regards

La sonrisa de la Gioconda, Vermeer-style.
God that pearl-piercing hurt so much.
I still see hope and curiosity and thirst for knowledge in those eyes, despite the hidden pain.
