A new year’s request.

THIS IS NOT A POEM.

THIS IS NOT A FOOD STORY.

THIS IS A 14 YEAR OLD’S REQUEST.

Today marks the beginning of a new decade. Calendars will change. Resolutions will be set. We will step into the new year 2020. The Summer Olympics will be held. The red planet will be observed. The World Expo @ Dubai will be held. Amongst all of these events to look forward to, what will become of the Earth?

As the teen climate activist Greta Thunberg puts it, the world is already on fire. What concerns me is that somewhere we have lost the reverence for Mother nature. We have obliviously taken steps towards our self destruction. Might we be the ones to extinguish life from the only living planet in the observable universe??

2020 is another leap year. This gives us 1 extra day to do something we might have eschewed because of lack of time and I place forward the request to everyone reading this post to give yourself just one day to nature. What I ask of you is a mere amount of 24 hours out of the hefty 8784 hours from the year 2020. Just one day to prove that you care for nature and that you care for the dying ecosystems. It does not have to be complete boycott of electronics or vehicles, but it has to be a day where you thank nature for everything and you try paying back with whatever you can.

Mark a day on your calendar and take a bus to work. Plant a tree. Help an animal. Do not dispose garbage carelessly. You don’t have to take the streets protesting, but do basically anything that does not hurt nature and you shall set an example for the 9 billion people inhabiting Earth.

Think about it: If 9 billion people can somehow give themselves one day to change the crisis that plagues the Earth even 2020 should fall short.

REMEMBER- JUST ONE DAY!
